Hello,

Is there such a thing as a hard reset for the A2000? I ask because sometimes a keyboard reset doesn't always work and I have to power down. One example is if I play the new Frogger and then try to boot Qix I get a red guru error. If I power down after Frogger and then boot Qix it works fine. It makes me think that there is code in some portion of memory that is not being cleared/reset. Or, the state of the custom chips is a bit wonky until the full power down.

I have seen an option to build a physical momentary switch to short Gary's pin1 + pin5 which will send a signal to the _KBRESET line. Is this the same as an Amiga-Amiga-Ctrl reset? Would pressing a switch there for 1-2secs be sufficient to thoroughly wipe the memory and reset the state of the custom chips? I kinda think no but that's why I'm asking.

Also, since there are Zorro slots, can anything be done there?

For the basis of this thread
  • a soft reset is a PC's Ctrl-Alt-Del , the same as Amiga-Amiga-Ctrl
  • a hard reset is a PC's reset button, Amiga?
  • a power cycle is just killing the power, the same as Amiga

These problems usually relate to a bad PSU.

There is no real hard reset for any Amiga, other than powering it down and leaving it off for at least 30 seconds.
And the Gary pins is just as a keyboard, just like the Gayle on the A1200 does reset it just a bit better for the PCMCIA.

The zorro slots should be fine unless some pins are bend or broken (which is almost impossible), but they won't do a reset, maybe the CPU slot, but then it has to be done trough a CPU card, as far as I know, no card can do that and I have had many of them from the Blizzard 2060 to the A2620.

Have you run Amigatest Kit to see if anything weird pops up ?

I doubt a power supply in this case. I'm using an Antec EA380 with a PC-to-A2000 adapter from Arymanx (

And I've seen it on multiple machines I've worked on. Most often on cracked games with a demo before the game load. In this instance I was wondering if
  1. the new Frogger guys were poking into areas they should not be :)
  2. a reset does not clear ...something...
  3. and the demo before the Qix game load tries to use the same area

Granted when it comes to cracked games from the 1990's who knows what coding went into the demo.

Regardless, I was just hoping for a 'yeah, just attached a momentary switch between ground and ...this... pin/point' type answer. And, ATK tests fine for memory/CIA/video/etc.

I know those, I have 2 of them, so that's good then.
What revision board do you have ?

Anything is possible if they are indeed poking in areas they shouldn't be, that could be the case.
Many games on disk with cracktos and trainers work reasonably well, there are few who crash after some time, but in my experience they run well.
WHDLoad is different story, but that has enough options, / noautovec is the most common to use when it crashes.
It could be something that is made resident, then it would remain in the memory until power off

Just another 'Commodore, huh?'

I resolved my issues by moving from KS 2.04 (37.175) to 2.05 (37.350)

Okay, bit strange, cause the only difference is that 2.05 autoboots from IDE or pcmcia, 2.04 required drivers which only applies to A600.
* Revision 37.300 had bugs which prevented it from using hard disks larger than 40 Mb. These bugs were fixed in revision 37.350, which supported hard disks up to 4 Gb *
