Suggest me some action/sci-fi movies....

Just finished watching District 9 here with my wife. Well worth the 20 USD spent on the Blu-Ray. The Blade Runner Final cut is worth watching. That is the version that was released on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray last year. If you can watch it in high def, I recommend you do. If not, the DVD is still great. Pandorum is a so so Horror Sci-Fi. Reminded me very strongly of Dead Space. Check it out when it comes available. And you really shouldn't miss Avatar if you can get in to it. My wife and I have tried to see it since Christmas and the I-Max here is always sold out. Every day so it must be pretty good.

No-one has mentioned Dune, so far as I can see - required viewing in my opinion!

Serenity is one of the best sci-fi movies of the last few years. Fantastic dialogue, great characters and superb action sequences. I was one of the fortunate few who saw it premiere at the Edinburgh film festival a few years back...

Pitch Black (which I think Merlin mentioned) is also a great movie.

Matrix trilogy - a bit random in places, but the visuals and action sequences are amazing. Agent Smith is one of my favourite characters from the last few years.

I agree especially the full Extended/Extra Versions: They say it's rubbish compared to the book(s) but since i don't read but it's a fantastic film!

I liked many of the Films Listed Even Bi-Centenial Man it's a bit slow tho but worth it!

Starship Troopers was great too! but Avoid Starship Troopers 2 an absolute stinker, 3 wasn't bad more like the first but not as good!

of course All the Star Treks/Star Wars that goes without saying

I'll try for a bit of a more mixed selection for you from a wider range over time.

Cloverfield

Quite a strange film in a Blairwitch style POV handcam style, but also quite emmersive. It's one of those films that you watch wondering if you are enjoying it, but continue as it is quite fascinating. But I don't think you would watch it twice so hire or DL it.

IronMan - great film. Although lots of missed opportunities with the story.

Fifth Element - still one of my favourite Sci-Fi films.

Star Trek - The new Star Trek film was moans about by many die hard Star Trek fans, but for entertainment, big screen action, and some great characterisations it is brilliant.

Screamers - Great Sci-Fi Horror. Takes the Terminator idea further.

Dark Star - a Cult Classic Sci-Fi film that is a must see. The scene where one of the crew is arguing the existence of god with a bomb is worth it alone.

The Thirteenth Floor - A thought provoking take on virtual reality.

Sunshine - Great cinematography that really needs a big screen and HD.

Event Horizon - I know it's been mentioned, but it is good Sci-Fi Survival Horror.

Evolution - Great tongue in cheek Sci-Fi alien insects invade earth film. If you liked Starship Troopers you will enjoy it.

Robocop - The original is still the best.

And finally, the original Star Wars trilogy and all Star Trek films. Must have for any Sci-Fi session.

Cloverfield was very well-filmed, but The Blair Witch Project was a parody; totally crap.

In the same category (handcam style) a horror-movie exists (about a female reporter with her camera-friend), but I don't remember its name.

TV SHOWS:
once you get past the puppets, FARSCAPE is a good series. (But it took me a Looong time to get past the puppets)

Antitrust was laughable is some parts (I love to balk at the tech mumbojumo they put in) and Operation:take down (or Track Down, or Hackers 2- depending on where you are in the world) was an ok fictionalization of the whole Kevin Mitnick thing- if you watch Trackdown then you must watch "freedom Downtime" also.
"pirates of the silicon valley" is still a favourite, even though it is blatantly bias

Fifth Element - still one of my favourite Sci-Fi films.

How could I forget Fifth Element - absolute classic. "Lelu Dallas Multipass" cracks me up every time.

It has to be said that Mila Jovovich is simply stunning in that movie. Gary Oldman's villian is also the stuff of genius, as is Ian Holm's obi-wan-esque priest. Bruce Willis parodying himself when he's interviewed by Chris Tucker is also a funny point in that movie...

John Paul Gaultier's costume designs, along with Luc Besson's vision and direction, made for some superb visuals.

In fact, now you mention it, I'm going to have to look this out on Blu-Ray and purchase it quick smart!

I thought I was once of the only people to ever see this show! I think I still have an original VHS version. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

I totally agree. I thoroughly enjoy Farscape. It is witty and humorous. I never watched it when it originally aired because of the puppets but when I went back to watch it on DVD, I was able to envision them as characters much better than before.
