Hi, this is not such problem and we will get it right. What I m doing now is ordering lot of parts from different sources. Yes, it was somehow devastating for me and probably for everyone to see one minor thing is on the way to finish this but after few days I m looking at this as a positive thing since all of this is learning process and as you know each project has some delays. Who could thing anyway that those ones will be fake. In the same time I m redesigning board to accept all models. So in total delay shouldn't be more than 20 days. But, we will have first results of the board in day or two since almost all tests of the core can be performed with this card holding this fake FPGA.

What is with the fake ones? Do they work at all, just not 100% up to spec, i.e. copies or original but faulty devices? Or are they completely non-working? How can you tell between a real and fake one?

@demolition you can't tell what are the real ones. Those ones are OK working just fine but they have 16K Logic Elements, when I performed tests they are ok but just smaller regarding LE. From the just looking to the chip you can't tell anything. But when you perform some tests you see that they are not represent what's labeled on them.

Does this mean we are going back from 40K LE FPGA to 16K because you got fake chips from your dealer?
I would suggest: give the fake ones back and re-order them.

Me on IRC with new card :) Yes, it is working :)

Yes @majsta, I know v1 core is old :-)
Wasnt sure if you were able to fit v2 core into "fake" Cyclone 3.

I expect full v2.x core to totally destroy the 060 in some benchmarks ;-)

@mjnurney we will play a game when time comes, who have top score on sysinfo :)
@eXeler0 I m actually impressed how this "fake" FPGA performs, I m so impressed that I m wondering all the time is it fake at all.

@majsta it could be fake in the same sense as a 68EC060 rebranded as a RC060 part. Its still a real 060 but stuff is missing (FPU). Could be a real Cyclone III but only 16k LE instead of 40?

(Im sure you already know this but typically, when you create a CPU or GPU you dont utilize the entire logic until later in the process when yealds are good.
So for example, in a nVidia GPU the cheaper parts use maybe 192 out of 256 CUDA cores. This means you can simply disable bad cores and still sell the chip instead of throwing it away. Still someone could label and sell it as if it had 256 functinal cores...
Just a thought.. anyway. Good luck with your hunt for a real Cyclone III.
