Wanted threads are useless

... I have a box of stuff that I wish to sell at some stage, but don't have time or motivation to start photographing and uploading them all.
Same thing here...

Agressive housekeeping and archiving old ads would help though. Plus the search is completely useless.
I second that!

Plus the search is completely useless. :)

I have to agree, but we can't put the blame on the Amibay staff, unfortunately most Forums I know seem to have terrible search functionality.

My experience of responding to WTB adverts, is generally you become the "weekend entertainment". Answering questions, making videos, testing, taking photos only to find the seller only wanted to pay 1/3rd of the amount you stated up front.

I want world peace and Kelly LeBrock to be my wife but I'm not sure either is possible... Good things come to those who wait :)

^^ hahaha......

she was a dream in Weird Science but i was a nerdy 14yr old teenager at that time :D

At my age I still wouldn't say no :D

To Kelly Le Brock, or just generally? :D

Generally LOL.

My all time favourite is attached. The screen grab is 15 years old and God only knows how old the film was that she starred in.

I go out of my way on occasion to connect a buyer with a seller if I see a match, be the sale here or elsewhere. Usually there is no acknowledgement for your time and effort. It's as if the wanted thread in question was immediately abandoned after it was created.

I think I'm done with trying to be helpful on wanted threads :(

I have been a matchmaker many times on the wanted forum .LoL

I have always found what I needed by posting on the wanted. Just a matter of being patient. This has been good to me as I have the odd item that cannot be found anywhere else

I agree. I found most of what I wanted here. Now its time to let some of it back in the pool :)

I know this discussion is a bit old. But I was just reading this wanted thread and thought of this thread again. This is a classic example of why wanted threads definitely aren't useless and why this is such a great community. User looking for 4 bits of kit, and within days he has offers for almost everything: https://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?89710-Looking-for-IBM-XT-Parts

It seems to vary wildly. I had a Wanted post for an A1200 for quite a while so I eventually bought one on eBay. The eBay seller I bought it from happens to be an AmiBayer. He said he never looked at the Wanted posts. I've also had a Wanted ad for an A600. Two have come up for sale that I missed out on because neither seller looked at the Wanted posts.

On the flip side, I have two other wanted posts that were answered. However, it seems more miss than hit.

Yeah but he seems to have gone AWOL since posting that thread. At least he hasn't contacted me..

That may be, but it doesn't change the fact that if you tell the community what you want, users will appear and you'll find what you're looking for.

Had some "Wanted" threads, but maybe ...

1. Some of my wanted things are too rare or ...
2. Some owners are sitting like hens on their hardware.

The retro scene sadly turned into a pile of arrogant behaviours and prices from outer space the last years. Only my opinion - nothing more and nothing less.
