No, I've not gone anywhere. Just as Watson said I've had a lot going on. So still here and willing to help. But appear for the moment to be locked out of the site and all direct communication ignored. Hope someone can communicate with me at some point if just to explain the situation.

Your PM will be answered tomorrow when I've got a chance between adjusting settings on here tonight and finished answering all the other questions and queries that have been asked

Thanks mate. It's been a long couple of weeks but we've got there at last.

We've done some more tweaks today and still got a few left to do.

I noticed mention that the ability for members to edit their own posts has been made available. Do this with caution because we locked the ability at the beginning for a reason. Editing a sales thread after the fact f.ex.

Any edits contain the History of all edits that can be seen by all Staff in the same way as it was on V5

That was always the case, but not the point. Better that a member cannot change the terms of a sale to remove the need for staff intervention.

How else do they adjust the price of an item in a Topic they have listed For Sale?
It's always been advised that the current price should be stated in post #1.
Without the ability to edit that post they wouldn't be able to follow the recommendations of the Forum.

Staff don't need to intervene unless there is a problem reported and if there is then we can gather evidence as required.

Good things come to those who wait.
And since you lovely people stuck around and waited out the digital diarrhoea that was IBv5, we decided to go all in on pleasing your eyeballs.

Enjoy.

It was just the policy of Amibay since day one when we set the site up and it had been in place for a long ring that a sale post could only be edited for 1 hour after creation. Any amendments could be posted in replies or a request to edit the topic starter if needed. Meant less policing of every topic due to less staff.

This was put into place way back at the beginning some 15 years ago when we first launched the site because some scam sellers were editing the terms of their sales after they had received payment from the buyer.

Just something to keeep in mind because scammers still lurk.

Scammers will always lurk, unfortunately they are everywhere, but they won't get far with the current team of mods and admin.

That doesn't make sense.....

in the 10 yrs or so I have been here we have always asked members NOT to bump a thread with a new post with a change but to "EDIT" their 1st post.

that's as far as I know has always been the way ( insert Mandalorian joke here )

or are you thinking about the "titles" which I agree should be requested by a mod as before and as it is now you can edit titles which I think should NOT be allowed as per what Harrison has explained.

Bump posts were and are a waste of the site space. Thread starters were always able to edit the first post, but not subsequent posts. Hence, a seller could add 'SOLD' to a multi-item sales thread.

as it is now I can edit my title and change the thread to sold / for sale / closed etc which I think the title should be fixed and a request to change by a mod is required.. I'm not sure about the prefix change as thats a time saver if the member does that themselves.

I agree with the title being fixed and can only be changed by mods. As for the prefix it can be a time saver, but some members make errors or don't even add the prefix, especially new and infrequent members. I have lost count already how many times i have had to fix or add the prefix, but i don't find it that big of a deal as i fix them on the fly while checking new threads.

I don't think it's possible to lock the title but all edits are available for us to see if a post/topic is reported.

To save Mods having to constantly visit each topic we have switched some of the responsibility onto the OP in that they can change their own prefix when an item is Sold. But they shouldn't be allowed to Close or Move it. This is in the test stage and if we find it's being misused it'll be turned off.

We've also enabled a logical default prefix for any Topic that is created in the For Sale, Wanted,Service and Recycle Bin nodes.
This again is to help reduce the workload on the Mods and will hopefully remove all the work of applying prefixes when they're forgotten by the OPs.

Sorry guys, yes I meant the topic/tread title and prefix, not the actual content of the sellers first post.

Being able to set their own sale to sold and edit the sale title invites fraud. But it also makes moderating completed sales next to impossible because you would grebe no easy of knowing if they set them to sold themselves.

Hmm.. not sure that I understand this. How would this lead to fraud? Also, we do have a way of checking the thread title history so we would know if that happened.
