As I'm having either issues with the 4GB CF as I've tried three, this may be down to timing problems. Does anyone have a cheap or a 1GB CF they know that works in PCMCIA they could give or sell to me?

I've got a 64MB that works in PCMCIA without a problem.

Yours for the cost of postage.

Thanks man, but as I said needs to be 1GB

667MB worth of Emulated Games to use via AMI :whistle:

300MB or so of Spectrum

I used to run a 1Gb Crucial card in a PCMCIA adaptor for my Kanga Powerbook. It was my boot disk too. Could it be the make of CF you are using? I know that the spec subtly changes over time and perhaps an older CF might suit you more.

I'm using SANDISK ULTRA 4GB which is supposed to be the best :double

Here's something which may be of interest. Does the card work ok in a camera?

There's a lot of stuff out there about cards supporting or not supporting UDMA mode. These days it's the people who use DSLRs with high frame rates or video shooting modes that need Compact Flash which supports UDMA for faster writing.

You are probably right to assume an older (lower capacity?) card would be more suitable for booting an old OS. Last time I tried this was in my Kanga Powerbook. I fired it up the other day and it still works a treat off a PCMCIA adaptor from Jessops (remember them?). I've never tried a bigger CF card in it as they were very expensive at the time.

Card works fine in camera and on PC

Interesting read though thanks :wooha:
