I have seen some that I would not be sure it would
even put you on the next inline list..

We do try and ensure that anyone who is interested actually says so. A "PM sent" is so ambiguous, we don't tend to view it as someone necessarily placing themselves next in-line.
That said, one of the reasons we have moderation is to read these threads, and if there is a dispute, come to a fair resolution (if possible).
We can say that on the balance of probability "PM sent" is enough, but if I was after something in particular, I would be making sure my interest was clear and unambiguous.
