We already have alpha builds of the new version on our dev machines, and yes, it does get faster.

The OS feels rushed, so I'm sure it'll get fixed in a future update. Until then we can always play games instead of carousing menus :lol:

They obviously rushed it to cash in the Xmas season.

The controller battery life is terrible :picard

I remember having a mate over to for a Resi Evil shooter session with the original Wii and playing for 5 hours straight, now that was a good night :)

I'll be very surprised if Nintendo don't release a revised Controller next year with a bigger capacitive screen and longer battery life. Nintendo always seem to do this with their hardware, release it first, then try and fix it later with an add on or even a revised model.

Turn down brightness to 1 and enable energy saving mode, my gamepad lasts between 5 and 6 hours with this. Still not particularly long, but good enough for me.

Yes, that would make sense. Although they should've used a capacitive screen from the getgo.

There's an energy saving mode? :lol:

Well, the tablet was designed with a stylus in mind, I doubt they will use a capacitive screen in the future. Maybe there will be a DeluxeDeluxe Pack with more internal storage and preinstalled games, but that should be all.

>>> Yep, like on the 3(DS)

Always? Only i can think of is that they made the smaller nintendo ds. hardly to fix anything beside size. Xbox 360 on the other hand got a revision to fix the RROD problem.

I have a stylus for my ipad, so it's not totally inconcievable. Just find it weird they used the resistive type. Can understand most other shortcomings, but not that one. It is likely that they'll fix battery life in a future revision though.

Original NES -> Toploader
WiiMote -> Wii Motion Plus
3ds -> 3ds circle pad addon

Other manufacturers do the same though :)

That's more cut-down or revised versions of systems more than controllers, though... The N64 controller originally had two prongs but they weren't sure people would take to the analogue stick so to cover themselves they added the third prong with a prominent d-pad. After analogue took over they still didn't bring out a new version of the pad, just stuck with the same one. The only time they changed anything in a control pad was with Wii Remote Plus, and that was an optional add-on that few games supported, and likely as a response to the PlayStation Move rather than there being issues with the original remote.

I'm not too worried about the gamepad's battery life, as Nyko has released/is releasing a small add-on that increases life to about 10 hours... or so goes the claim, at least.

Sounds pretty good. Go Nyko!

Nyko fried my very first XBOX360 and triggered the fire alarm so the fire brigade came to my house. I'm never going to touch one of their products again :lol:

Heh, I remember that. Still, Nyko have been around for a long time and I (like to think, anyway!) that Nintendo's policies are more strictly enforced than Microsoft's... hell, Microsoft was so eager to rush the 360 out that they botched it quite badly, that alone (never mind Nintendo's renowned reputation for quality) suggests to me that Microsoft's policies are a little more lax.

Still, of course I will read reviews and get impressions before buying, but I'm hopeful!

Seriously, why not play with the power cable attached?
When I had my 14 hour Mario session I just plugged the cable in...

Because it defeats the purpose and is rather annoying ?

I was playing 20 years with cables attached and it did not annoy me. After 5 minutes you forget about the cable anyway.
Deal with it...

You're missing my point, but let's just leave it at that, eh? I haven't had a problem with the battery life yet. :)

Hey, Dragonheart, is the update us mortals got today the same one you got as alpha?
