Yep, as much as I dislike some of EA's practices. They also own/publish for a lot of good developers. Bioware being my main example. (Still, that's what my pc is for)
If it ends up being as great as the gamecube I'll be very happy, despite a small library of games, that small library puts most other systems to shame. Possibly my favourite 3d console along with dreamcast.
I do think though that all 3 companies are going to struggle this time round. A few reasons why:
Graphics: WiiU is pretty weak. As is PS4 and the new Xbox all appear quite weak, most of my mates that are more of the casual FIFA crowd saw the PS4 vids on the net just weren't impressed, especially when they popped round mine and played things like the new Tomb Raider in 1080p max settings, tressfx etc on a 55" tv.
The new consoles just aren't going to sell themselves on graphics this time around, which ALL previous generations have done. (Wii being the exception)
Media capabilities: WiiU is good for streaming Netflix, ps4 and xbox will be too. But so is most peoples TV's, Apple TV's. WDTV, even SkyHD offer streaming. There's no need to get a PS4 for new optical technology etc either like there has been with the last couple of gens where it worked out cheaper to buy a console than a dedicated Blu-Ray player.
There just isn't going to be a compelling leap to buy the new generation. It's similar to 1080p displays, non tech people don't care if there content is 720p or 1080p. Heck, most of my non tech mates didn't realise they had to use the HDMI on a PS3 or component on 360 and actually change the settings to a higher res to see the benefits.
They were blissfully ignorant that they were playing regular SD modes on these things for a couple of years.
So, in summary, it all adds up to Tech minded folk will likely appreciate the new gen for the minor advances that they are, but the public in general is just going to go "£4xx-500 so I can stream games onto youtube? why would I want to do that?"
Outside of people already uploading to youtube and gaming blogs, I haven't heard one person that's excited about the PS4's Share button. Yet tha seems to be its biggest asset...
Perhaps I'm out of touch with gaming in general, but this gen is likely gonna crash and burn. I do enjoy the WiiU though

(But I'm a realist, it's not going to wow people, but fits my need for playing COD on the toilet)
